Information and updates
We’re aware that fraudulent emails are being sent using the Hasbean name and offering heavily discounted coffee and AeroPress bundles.
These emails are not from Ozone.
Our investigation has established that the contact information being used comes from a historic Hasbean newsletter list. That information has subsequently been used to send fraudulent emails.
What information was involved?
The historic newsletter list contained:
- Names
- Email addresses
The list did not contain:
- Passwords or account login details
- Payment or bank details
- Postal addresses
- Order or transaction history
- Special category information
The information involved is limited to basic contact details.
What should I look out for?
Please be cautious of unexpected emails claiming to be from Hasbean or Ozone, particularly where they contain unusually good offers.
A few simple checks can help:
Hasbean is no longer an Ozone brand. The Hasbean brand was retired in March 2024, so emails offering Hasbean products or promotions are not from us.
Ozone has one website: ozonecoffee.co.uk. Check that links in genuine Ozone communications take you to this address.
Be cautious of offers that seem too good to be true. We recommend not clicking links, opening unexpected attachments or making payments in response to suspicious messages.
When receiving genuine communications from Ozone, check that they are from an Ozone email address and that links take you to ozonecoffee.co.uk.
What is Ozone doing?
We have been reporting fraudulent emails, websites and other infrastructure being used in connection with these messages to the relevant providers and authorities.
We continue to monitor reports from customers and investigate new examples as they are brought to our attention.
There is no indication that our current customer, ecommerce or payment systems have been compromised as part of this incident.
Do I need to take any action?
You do not need to take any action.
We recommend following normal online security precautions and being particularly careful with unexpected emails, links, requests for payment or requests for personal information.
As the Hasbean brand has been retired, you may wish to create a rule in your email provider that automatically sends messages containing “Has Bean” or “Hasbean” to your junk folder, helping to prevent similar emails from reaching your inbox.
Suspicious emails can be reported to the UK National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) through its suspicious email reporting service. You can seek further support and advice from the NCSC at Data breach guidance for individuals.
Why have I received an email from Ozone about this?
We are contacting a group of former Hasbean customers whose historical account information dates from a period consistent with the historic newsletter list.
We cannot establish which individuals were subscribed to that newsletter list. Receiving this email therefore does not mean that we have identified you as being on the affected list.
Further information
We have retained records of the incident and the steps taken to investigate and disrupt the fraudulent activity.
